Dortmund duo Jadon Sancho and Manuel Akanji fined for lockdown haircuts

Borussia Dortmund players Jadon Sancho and Manuel Akanji have both been fined for breaches of Bundesliga lockdown regulations.

The pair had their haircut at home, but were found in breach of the German Football League's (DFL) "general hygiene and infection protection standards", as well as "the medical and organisational concept of the DFL task force 'sports medicine / special game operation'".

Neither Sancho, Akanji nor the hairdressers were wearing masks in pictures published on social media.

Thorgan Hazard, Axel Witsel, Raphael Guerreiro and Dan-Axel Zagadou also had haircuts but were not punished.

Akanji had some weeks prior posted urging people to stay home, saying he was doing so for the safety of his family, the elderly and the vulnerable.

The DFL concede that, "There is no question that professional footballers also have to have their hair cut", but added that "the club had also provided its players with a corresponding opportunity".

The size of the fines have not been made public, but Sancho and Akanji have five days in which to lodge an appeal.

Dortmund avoid a fine as they were deemed to not be at fault.

The club's sporting director voiced his scorn of the incident on Thursday, saying, "We talked to the players again in a very clear way and made it very clear to them how they should behave.

"We also talked to the hairdresser. I don't understand why you have to take pictures as well."

Sancho had earlier in the week avoided punishment for revealing a t-shirt with the message "Justice for George Floyd" during his hat-trick appearance against Paderborn.

Along with Dortmund team-mate Achraf Hakimi, Borussia Monchengladbach's Marcus Thuram, and Schalke's American midfielder Weston McKennie, Sancho had shown his support for the family of the man murdered by Minneapolis police officers.
