Donny van de Beek cut a frustrated figure on the Manchester United bench when it was made apparent that he would play no part against Villarreal on Wednesday night.
With the score-line level at 1-1, the Dutch midfielder was overlooked late on when Solskjaer sprung Jesse Lingard and Fred from the bench in search for a winner.
Spotted in the background of a camera shot toward the sideline action, he can be seen springing forward from his seat, only to be calmed down by teammates Dean Henderson and Eric Bailly.
Dissatisfied with his night, van de Beek then throws down his chewing gum in frustration.
Signed by Manchester United from Ajax for a fee of £35 million last summer, van de Beek's tenure with the club has largely seemed a frustrating experience.
Recently, the Dutch football legend Marco van Basten shared his concerns regarding the midfielder.
"It just wasn't smart choices," he is reported to have said of van de Beek's move from Ajax to Manchester United by Voetbal Zone.
"If you say you spoke to Real Madrid and then you go to Manchester United, you are betting way too high."
Assessing the differences there are playing in the Netherlands with Ajax as opposed to playing in a midfield role elsewhere, van Basten suggested that the 24-year-old may not be up to the task at hand.
"Van de Beek is not that good," he stated somewhat bluntly. "As number 10 at Ajax it is much easier than as number 10 in Spain or England.
"In the Netherlands you get a lot of help, you get opportunities, but that is not the case abroad."
During a tightly fought Champions League encounter with Spain's Villarreal, United eventually came out on top when Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed a late goal to secure a 2-1 for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team.
