Derry City to welcome back fans to Brandywell for Bohs visit

Derry City will welcome a limited number of fans back to the Ryan McBride Brandywell on Friday.

The Candystripes' SSE Airtricity Premier Division meeting with Bohemians is to be used as a 'test event' for the safe return of supporters.

The test is being carried out in collaboration between the club and Derry/Strabane Council.

Since late May, up to 500 supporters have been allowed inside sports stadiums in the Six Counties, in line with guidance from the Northern Ireland Executive.

This has seen a number of Allianz League games played out with 500 fans present over the past two weekends. Ulster Rugby are yet to benefit, after their recent Rainbow Cup game with Scarlets was called off.

The return of fans to grounds on Foyleside had been delayed due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in the area.

Friday's game of Derry and Bohs will be the one of three in the SSE Airtricity League this Friday to have limited numbers present.

1,000 will be at Tallaght Stadium for Shamrock Rovers' Premier Division meeting with Finn Harps, while a further 600 will be at Turners Cross for the First Division clash of Cork City and Cabinteely.

Derry City statement:

Derry City FC can confirm that this Friday night’s home game against Bohemians will be used as a ‘test event’ for the safe return of spectators to the Brandywell.

A limited number of members will be admitted to the match, and that will take account of advice from the Public Health Authority coupled with Risk Assessments carried out by both the Football Club and Derry/Strabane Council.

As advertised at the start of the year, tickets for matches for which there is a reduced capacity will be balloted among members in the first instance.

There will now be a draw for Friday night’s allocation where members will be drawn at random for the chance to buy one ticket each for the match.

All members will receive an email today/tomorrow detailing the timings for this draw, and how to purchase tickets if successful.
