A Harry Kane transfer 'has got Manchester United written all over it' | DAMIEN DELANEY

With Harry Kane's Tottenham future once again up in the air, former Ireland footballer Damien Delaney believes a move to Old Trafford is plausible, but not extremely likely.

Kane scored Spurs' first and only goal in their final home game of the season, a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brentford. It might have proven to be the England captain's final game in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a home player.

With only one year left on his contract, there are elements of deja vu about the transfer discussions around Kane, as he has once again been linked as Manchester United's top transfer target.

However, Delaney does not believe that Spurs owner Daniel Levy will let his star striker go cheaply, nor does he believe the the 29-year-old will actively improve United's squad.

Speaking on Football Saturday, Delaney looked at the likelihood of Kane moving to Old Trafford.

"It has got Manchester United written all over it," Delaney said. "When you look at the players they're signing they're probably the only ones that would pay 20% over his market value just to get him in the door.

"He's a big name, he's going to sell a lot of shirts. But his age profile, the length of contract they're going to have to give him at his age. He's going to at least have a minimum four, probably five year deal. Now you're hitched to him like Casemiro until their mid 30s.

"But I suppose, if this Qatari money comes in, that's a moot point. They will throw a five year deal at him and in two years' time we'll deal with it."

Is Harry Kane past his best?

Manchester United are in need of a fresh striker in the off season, regardless of where they are able to finish on the Premier League table.

However, Delaney feels the Erik Ten Hag will have other, younger, hotter prospects on his radar than an aging Kane with eyes on the Premier League goal-scoring record.

"I just think, scouring across Europe there's young, hot strikers, or there's better age profile players that are still on the way up," Delaney said.

"Maybe a lot of United and Spurs fans might disagree, but Harry Kane is an incredibly good striker. But have we seen the best of him? He will guarantee you 20 goals a season, but the the real elite Harry Kane, maybe those days are gone. I'm not sure."
