Dawson Devoy scoops Player of the Month Award

Dawson Devoy is the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month.

The Bohemians midfielder's fine form this season has continued in recent weeks.

He has excelled for the Dalymount Park club in the league, and in their remarkable Europa Conference League run.

He scored in their away tie against Stjarnan of Iceland.

Bohs face PAOK on Thursday in the second leg of their third-round qualifier.

They take a 2-1 lead to Greece after an outstanding performance in the home leg last week at the Aviva Stadium.

“It feels really good to win SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month,”  Devoy said on receiving the award.

“It’s nice to be recognised, but the main thing is helping the team.

"When the team is playing well, it’s much easier as a player to play well."

The 19-year-old also had praise for his manager, Keith Long.

“Keith has been really good with the team this year, and with me personally.

"He puts his faith in the youth players and when you perform you get rewarded.”

Looking ahead to Thursday's fixture - where a win will see Bohs enter the play-off round for a place in the group stages.

“Playing at the Aviva Stadium was a standout moment,” Devoy adds. “It was unbelievable.

“All the lads have been saying it’s special to be back playing in front of the Bohs fans, who have been amazing.

“PAOK are a good side and they will be expected to go through.

"It will be tough conditions but we’re all really excited for it.”

Domestically, Bohs remain in the hunt for a place in the top three despite losing to Waterford last weekend.

They face third-placed Sligo Rovers  on Sunday.

Another Bohs player, Georgie Kelly, finished second in the voting. David McMillan of Dundalk was third.
