David Power is the new Tipperary senior football manager

Kilsheelan Kilcash clubman David Power has been ratified as the new Tipperary senior football manager on a two year term.

Power guided the Premier county minors to a famous All Ireland win in 2011, as they beat Dublin by 3-9 to 1-14. The Dubs side that day included future senior stars Ciaran Kilkenny, Jack McCaffrey and Paul Mannion.

Power replaces Liam Kearns in the hotseat. He will be assisted in his new role by former Dublin player Paddy Christie, Michael McGeehin, Charlie McGeever, Joe Hayes and Tommy Toomey.

McGeever is a former manager of Clonmel Commercials and led Tipperary to the 2015 All Ireland minor final.

Power returns to the senior fray following a stint in charge of Wexford between 2014 and 2016. He also managed the Tipperary Under 21 side.

Tipperary haven't won a Munster senior football championship since 1935.

They last reached the decider in 2016, when a first victory over Cork since 1944 was the springboard for a brilliant run through the qualifiers, as they defeated Derry and Galway, before losing the All Ireland semi final to Mayo.

Perhaps Power and his impressive backroom team will take heart from the performance of the county's senior hurlers, who won the Liam McCarthy Cup last month.
