Darts players offered financial assistance during coronavirus shutdown

Darts players on the PDC Tour are being offered financial support during the sport's shutdown for the coronavirus pandemic.

The Premier League ground to a halt with the March 12 meeting in Newcastle.

Dates in Newcastle and Rotterdam which were due to take place in April have been pushed back to later in the year, while the nights in Belfast, Berlin and Sheffield have also been postponed.

The Sheffield date has been re-arranged for Thursday July 2, while a re-fixed date for Belfast is yet to be confirmed.

The PDC announced the following measures for their players:

• An Immediate Emergency Fund of up to £1,000 for any Tour Card Holder in real need of immediate financial assistance. This fund is SPECIFICALLY for Members who are currently suffering a real negative financial impact due to the Covid-19 outbreak. This applied-for payment will be non-repayable.

• A PDPA/PDC Hardship Fund for any Tour Card Holder who requires further financial support in the months ahead in the form of an advance against future prize money. The details for this fund will be forwarded to all Tour Card Holders in due course.

Meanwhile, World Championship sensation Fallon Sherrock - who was a guest on Off The Ball earlier this year - has been detailing her own issues during the coronavirus lockdown.

The first woman to beat a man at a World Championship suffers from a kidney condition which she told The Telegraph leaves her in the "high-risk" category for coronavirus.

"If I’ve needed to go to the shops, I’ve sent my mum or sister", the 25-year old told the paper.

"There was only one day where I had to go out. I was standing far away from other people, I had my scarf around my face, I looked really weird but I was so cautious."

Sherrock says she has to have medications delivered to her house to manage her condition.

She's also been home-schooling her young son, Rory, who has autism, "It’s much different to his normal day,” Sherrock said. “With his autism he’s used to routine. It’s not like that now but he’s adjusting to it and enjoying it at the moment.

"It’s his birthday in a couple of weeks. I’d booked it off so was planning on being at home. I was going to take him to a dinosaur park, but that can’t happen now. We’ll probably bake a cake and have a little party inside for us instead."

Sherrock was due to take part in an exhibition at Madison Square Garden in New York in June, with trips to Australia and New Zealand booked for August. Due to COVID-19, they hang in the balance.

The revised Premier League schedule as of March 24 is:

May 7 2020 - The SSE Hydro, Glasgow
May 14 2020 - First Direct Arena, Leeds
May 21 2020 - The O2, London
July 2 2020 - The FlyDSA Arena, Sheffield

September 3 2020 - Mercedes-Benz Arena, Berlin
September 9-10 2020 - Rotterdam Ahoy
September 24 2020 - The Manchester Arena
October 1 2020 - Utilita Arena, Newcastle
