Darren Randolph ruled out of this month's World Cup qualifiers

The Republic of Ireland have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of this month's World Cup qualifiers with Darren Randolph ruled out of both games.

Manager Stephen Kenny has confirmed that experienced goalkeeper won't be in his squad next week, with the West Ham stopper currently sidelined with hip and thigh issues.

"We have some injury problems in goal," the Ireland boss said at a supporters question and answers session this evening.

"I've been speaking to Darren over the last few days and West Ham have shut him down at the moment.

"He played recently and started the game really well but the defenders had to take the kickouts in the second half and that's very unfortunate. He's had a kicking issue for a while. Initially a thigh injury and then a hip injury. It's caused him a lot of anguish. Darren won't be fit to be selected for the camp.”

Backup 'keeper Caoimhin Kelleher is also a doubt but Kenny is hopeful he can resume training with Liverpool next week.

John Egan, James McCarthy, and James McClean had already been ruled out while the Ireland boss says David McGoldrick won't be coming out of retirement.

In better news for the Ireland management, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti says captain Seamus Coleman will return from a three-game absence when they play Burnley this weekend.
