Aston Villa are considering sending Danny Drinkwater back to Chelsea after he was involved in a training ground bust-up with Jota.
The Daily Mail is reporting Drinkwater headbutted Jota in training on Tuesday during an angry exchange with his team-mate.
It is understood talks over Drinkwater's future have already taken place but a final decision is yet to be made.
The 30-year-old, who has only made four appearances for Villa since joining in January, is also likely to face disciplinary action from the club.
The former Premier League winner with Leicester started the season on loan with Burnley but made only one league start for the Clarets before returning to Chelsea.
His spell at Burnley was marred after he was involved in a fight in Manchester, which left him with bruising on his face.
The highlight of Drinkwater's career came in 2016 when he was part of Leicester's title-winning team but since his £35 million move to Chelsea in 2017, Drinkwater has played just 17 top-flight games in three seasons.
