Crucible set for a full house for World Snooker Championship final

The iconic Crucible Theatre is set to have snooker fans at all of this year's World Championship matches and a full house for the final.

The tournament is participating in the UK government's Events Research Programme, including an FA Cup semi-final and the final and the EFL Cup final, which will oversee a range of pilot events in Spring and Summer.

The aim of the programme is to build evidence on the risks associated with Covid-19 transmission routes, the characteristics of events and surrounding activities, and the extent to which mitigation measures can effectively address these risks.

All attendees will have to undertake a test for Covid-19 prior to attending the Crucible Theatre and additionally 5 days post attendance and will have to be negative for the virus before being allowed in.

The round 1 matches at the 980-capacity venue in Sheffield, taking place from Saturday 17 April to Wednesday 21 April will have 33 per cent spectator capacity and will be managed under social distancing guidelines.

There will be 1 metre plus distancing observed between different ticket groups/bookings, social distancing will be observed throughout the building and external queuing areas and face coverings will be mandatory inside the venue at all times.

Round 2 of the tournament from Thursday to Monday will see the venue step up to operate at 50 per cent capacity and fans will be grouped in parties of one or two and the available seats will be spread around the venue to avoid different parties sitting next to one another.

Social Distancing will not be expected under this capacity although some mitigation procedures will be required to reduce the risk of transmission including wearing face coverings in the venue.

For the quarter-final and semi-finals from Tuesday 27 April to Saturday 1 May the venue will operate at 75 per cent capacity.

At that stage, organisers say that it will not be possible to avoid different parties sitting alongside one another, although some mitigation procedures will be required to reduce the risk of transmission including wearing face coverings in the venue.

The final takes place on the Sunday and Monday and there will be no capacity restriction but again, organisers say that some mitigation procedures will be required to reduce the risk of transmission including wearing face coverings in the venue.
