Concern for Ibrahimovic Milan future after knock suffered in training

Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have a scan on a knock which is feared could be the recurrence of an Achilles injury suffered earlier this year.

The 38-year-old was injured in a club training session on Monday and it was reported by Sky Sports Italia that the player felt the knock around the calf area.

Ibrahimovic was transported back to the changing rooms in a buggy and was limping when he left the Milanello training base.

Milan have downplayed the injury and are awaiting the results of a scan.

The former Sweden international rejoined the Serie A club, where he played between 2010 and 2012, in January after a two-year spell with LA Galaxy.

Milan gave Ibrahimovic an initial deal which is due to expire in June but the club have the option to extend for another 12 months.

Last week, Serie A clubs were given the go-ahead to resume group training.

The season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic on 9 March but it is hoped that it can resume behind closed doors in mid-June.

There are 12 rounds of matches left to play and the Italian football federation (FIGC) want the current season to end by 20 August.

The Italian minister for Sport, Vincenzo Spadafora, confirmed last week that there will be a decision made on the resumption of the Serie A season before the end of this month.

"It’s only right that during a period when all Italians are starting to ease the lockdown measures, football too should be allowed to resume in safety," said Spadafora.

"By May 28, we will be able to decide the date for when Serie A can resume and if it can resume.

"I called a meeting for May 28 with FIGC President Gabriele Gravina, Lega Serie A President Paolo Dal Pino and all the other components.

"That is when we’ll have the statistics in front of us and can decide."
