Con O'Callaghan rules out hurling as he targets improvement for Dubs

Dublin footballer Con O'Callaghan hopes there is more to come from him in the future as he rules out the possibility of a role with the Dublin hurlers.

O'Callaghan, who has received a nomination for 2019 footballer of the year, was speaking at Sunday's homecoming celebrations in the city centre following their completion of the five-in-a-row earlier this month.

He says that it is great to receive individual recognition but it is not the most important thing on his mind.

"At the end of the day, the whole goal is to win the All-Ireland and I suppose the other stuff; that's nice on top but the main goal was to win the All-Ireland and that's what we did so we're delighted."

"I hope to keep improving, the goal is to always improve. I think there's still a lot of areas of my game I can work on.

"It depends on every game it's just about improving shooting, increasing your accuracy, faster, stronger, fitter - there's always some area you can improve on."

O'Callaghan won young player of the year two years ago and is well in with a shout for player of the year after particularly developing his strength and physicality this year.

"This is my fourth year on the team, there's a lot of young lads who are really driving it on, there's a load of young leaders there.

"The bedrock of the team is the competitive edge in training and people really pushing each other.

"It's Championship, that is what drives it on."

O'Callaghan is also a prolific hurler and many from Dublin and indeed the rest of the country have hoped that we may see him involved with the inter-county hurlers.

He finished up with 2-3 to his name in Cuala's recent win over Kilmacud Crokes in the Dublin Hurling Club Championship.

His heroics have led to debate and speculation that he may be the ultimate dual player.

However, "not in the near future" was his response when asked about the possibility of featuring for the hurlers anytime soon.

"I love going back to the club but it'd be too much."
