City rising star Phil Foden has "the world at his feet" | David Meyler

Former Republic of Ireland midfielder David Meyler has lauded Phil Foden after his man-of-the-match display in Manchester City's 4-1 win at Liverpool, saying he "has the world at his feet".

The young England midfielder scored the fourth goal as City registered their first Premier League victory at Anfield in 18 years with the win sending them five-points clear at the summit with a game in hand.

Foden's flourished in a more advanced role in the team following the departure of David Silva, contributing 10 goals in all competitions this season.

“Phil Foden is a guy who keeps the ball really well," the 20-year-old's manager Pep Guardiola said after the game.

"He arrives so aggressive but he is also still so young. When he plays wide it is more easy for him, he will learn. The action for the second goal and the fourth goal, we know what a huge talent he is but he is still young and hopefully he can understand he can still improve."

David Meyler was on this morning's OTB AM to review yesterday's match and he was very impressed by Foden's showing in the false nine position.

"The boy is just naturally gifted. He just wants the ball everywhere and he has all the traits that you'd look for in a young player.

"He's confident, he can get on the half-turn, he can drive forward and run with the ball, he can see a pass. He's comfortable in possession and he scores goals.

"If you look at the fourth goal, people will have question marks over Alisson, but in that moment where he picks it up and shifts inside in one movement and the power he generates on that ball.

"That boy really does have the world at his feet. England fans will be excited by him, you see how highly Pep Guardiola speaks of him and obviously he's been manager of Barcelona and Bayern Munich and he credits Phil Foden with being one of the best youngsters he's ever worked with. That speaks volumes."
