Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has undergone knee surgery after being forced off during Saturday's 4-0 Premier League win over Brighton.
The French defender went down under a challenge from Brighton's Adam Webster in the first half at the Etihad Stadium.
A statement on the Manchester City website read: "Aymeric Laporte has undergone surgery on his knee after damaging his cartilage and lateral meniscus during Saturday’s win over Brighton.
"The surgery, carried out by Dr Ramon Cugat in Barcelona, was successful and a more detailed prognosis will be provided in due course.
"Everyone at City wishes Aymeric a full and speedy recovery."
John Stones has missed the last two matches with a thigh injury so Nicolas Otamendi is City's only fully-fit centre-back.
There have been suggestions that Pep Guardiola will use midfielder Fernandinho in central defence if he has injury problems.
No time-frame has been put on Laporte's return but the injury is not as bad as first feared.
