Christian Eriksen not permitted to play in Italy

Christian Eriksen won't be allowed to play in Italy this season following the cardiac arrest he suffered at Euro 2020.

Inter Milan say they are open to letting their midfielder move elsewhere, but it isn't clear if he will be allowed to play in other countries.

The Danish midfielder collapsed during his side's clash with Finland in June and subsequently received medical treatment on the pitch and in hospital.

Eriksen was then fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) device, which is a type of pacemaker.

Medical experts involved in Italian football have said that he won't be permitted to play in the country while the ICD device is in place.

“With reference to the registration rights of the player Eriksen,” Inter Milan said in a statement. “it should be noted that following a serious injury which occurred during the European Championship in June 2021, the player has been temporarily inhibited by the Italian medical authority from sporting activity in the current season.

“Although the current conditions of the player don’t meet the requirements of achieving sporting fitness in Italy, the same could instead be achieved in other countries where the player could resume competitive activity.”

While the medical rules elsewhere may or may not differ to those in Italy, Inter say they will allow Eriksen to leave if he can play elsewhere.

They say they are happy "proceed with the sale of the player to a foreign team where the current conditions don’t exclude the possibility of obtaining eligibility".

Eriksen, 29, joined Inter in 2020 after seven years at Tottenham.
