Cheltenham Festival | Friday racing Tips | Thom's Trifecta

The final day of the Cheltenham Festival is almost upon us and our resident racing guru Thom Malone has been thumbing the formbook for Friday's trifecta.

The opening race of the day is the Triumph Hurdle for juveniles. The gloriously named Adonis Hurdle is a recognised trial for this race and Tritonic was an impressive winner of that when last seen.

English-trained winners have been hard to come by this week but Alan King has won this race in the past Katchit and Penzance and Tritonic can bring up a hat-trick for the stable.

The feature race is the Wellchild Gold Cup and Al Boum Photo is looking to make it a historic three Gold Cup wins on the bounce.

A Plus Tard has been well backed, understandably given the form of the stable but has the improver done enough to be the same price as a dual Gold cup winner. There are no holes in what Al Boum Photo has done to date.

He can handle the going, he has beaten most of these runners before, he is tactically versatile and officially the best horse in the race. Sometimes simplicity is genius, Al Boum Photo is an obvious selection but arguably overlooked in this Cheltenham Festival market.

In the Foxhunters or St. James's Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters' Chase as it is known now at 3.20, Paul Nicholls has a good recent record thanks to Pacha du Polder. Bob And Co was bought by David Maxwell to win this race. Unfortunately for the owner, he cannot ride due to the ban on amateur jockeys taking part at the Cheltenham Festival.

That may be no bad thing for punters, Sean Bowen was on board when he won last time out, easily at Haydock, and again he takes the mount on Friday.
