VIDEO | Police condemn ugly scenes of disorder outside Celtic Park

Scottish police have condemned the violent disorder outside Celtic Park on Sunday night, as three officers were injured in clashes with angry fans.

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland of the Greater Glasgow Division of Paisley Police described the scenes on Sunday night as 'disgraceful' and said they will not be tolerated.

"It was utterly disgraceful to see the violent scenes at Celtic Park on Sunday evening," said Sutherland.

"Three of our officers suffered injuries, albeit minor, as a result of the behaviour which took place.

"Abuse and assault is not simply part of the job for police officers and staff and will not be tolerated. The Chief Constable has made it clear that this is completely unacceptable and he has committed to reducing the impact of violence and improving the safety of officers and staff."

The search for those responsible continues.

“We have now launched an investigation to identify those who were involved in the disorder and violence towards police officers, players and officials.

“My message is clear, you won’t get away with it, don’t think just because you weren’t arrested last night does not mean you escaped.  If you are identified as being involved, you will be arrested.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information that will assist this investigation to contact us through 101. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."

Celtic Park

Videos emerged on Sunday evening purporting to show angry Celtic fans outside Celtic Park, some of whom clashed with police.

The footage appeared to show fans looking to make their displeasure clear at the club's hierarchy after their 2-0 loss at home to Ross County.

Fan protests

Fan frustration has been building as the season has progressed, with Celtic currently 11 points Rangers at the top of the SPFL.

The defeat to Ross County in Sunday's Scottish League Cup match has led to scenes outside Parkhead that do not reflect well on harmony in the club.

Police had erected fencing and a circle of vans around the club to provide security amid grim scenes.

One man was seen to throw a fence at a police van, in an atmosphere of great anger.
