Celtic manager Neil Lennon admits wage cuts are likely due to COVID-19

With the Scottish football season in shut-down, Celtic boss Neil Lennon says it's a possibility that wage cuts will be implemented at the club as early as next month.

The Scottish Premiership's basement side Hearts have already asked all their staff to take a 50% reduction in page and the Hoops manager, while says Celtic may also need to temporarily slash their costs.

"Yes. We'll probably have a look at things at the end of April in terms of the club as a whole," the former Northern Ireland midfielder told the BBC. "Peter Lawwell and the board will review it then".

Lennon insists the nine-in-row chasing champions are "financially robust" but he knows that the pandemic is likely to hit football teams across Scotland hard.

"At the minute we're okay but for Scottish clubs, this is the time of year we'd be putting out season tickets, obviously the general public are reluctant to part with their money because they don't know what they're paying for yet.

"We still haven't finished the season. We don't know whether that's going to happen or not. We need to get a decision sooner rather than later on that. There has to be a backstop date at some stage so we can plan ahead."
