"I was upset, angry and sad" | Carl Frampton eager to put on a show after his freak injury setback

Carl Frampton returns to the ring on Saturday in Las Vegas against Tyler McCreary.

That fight comes almost a full year since the Belfast boxer suffered a loss to Josh Warrington.

But as his return to action closes in, the former two-weight world champion joined Off The Brawl's Ronan Mullen to discuss.

"A year out of the ring is a pretty long time," Frampton acknowledged.

"But it hasn't been as if I've been sitting idle for the last year. I did have a training camp in the middle.

"No fight materialised because of a freak accident when I broke my hand. But I've been training pretty much all year. I've had a good camp so I'm looking forward to putting on a show."

Emotions

The freak accident happened after an ornament struck his hand in a hotel lobby in August. Given that it led to the cancellation of a fight, it frustrated him greatly.

"I was upset, I was angry and I was sad," he said of that injury setback.

"I was confused. The emotions I had were... my head was done. It did really genuinely annoy me. It just felt like a bit of a waste.

"I was away from my family for a long time over the summer holidays when I could've been out with the kids and stuff. And I was training for a fight that never happened.

"I was upset but I think if I'm going to take anything from it, is that I have another camp ahead of me. I didn't fight but I still had the benefits of a training camp behind me.

"And it's kind of helping me going into this camp and into this fight as well."

He also admitted that retirement played on his mind after the Warrington loss.

"I've had a great career but I wouldn't like to go out on a fight like that," he said.
