Captain Callanan returns to Tipperary side for NHL clash with Westmeath

Seamus Callanan returns to the Tipperary starting XV for Sunday's Allianz Hurling League meeting with Westmeath.

The captain's comeback is one of six changes to the side that started the 2-19 to 0-20 win over Galway in Thurles a fortnight ago.

Brian Hogan, who had been originally named to start against Galway, replaces namesake Barry in goal.

There are a pair of switches in the half-back line, with Brendan Maher and Brian McGrath coming in for Seamus Kennedy and Ronan Maher.

Alan Flynn is replaced by Michael Breen in the centre of the park where he partners Paddy Cadell.

Willie Connors returns at wing-forward, taking the place of Dillon Quirke.

But it's the integration of Callanan back into the side that's sure to set Premier hearts a flutter.

The Drom & Inch full-forward last donned a blue and gold jersey in November's All Ireland quarter-final defeat to Galway.

Prior to the start of the League campaign, manager Liam Sheedy confirmed Callanan would miss the opening rounds in Division 1A as he rehabs a back injury. It's a problem that has been a long-term one for the 2019 Hurler of the Year.
