Camogie Association confirm league win for Tipperary

The Camogie Association has confirmed that Tipperary have been awarded the winning points from Sunday's Littlewoods Camogie League clash with Limerick.

Confusion reigned at the LIT Gaelic Grounds after the full-time whistle, with players informed by the referee that the Division 1, Group 2 match had ended in a draw; Limerick 1-7 Tipperary 0-10.

However, reporters and match attendees were certain that the women from the Premier County had won the match by a point.

The Association decided to have a review of the match this morning after which it confirmed the good news for the away team.

The official statement reads;

"Upon review by the Referee, in consultation with his Umpires and Match Officials, of the scoring in yesterday’s Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League Division 1 Group 2 fixture between Limerick v Tipperary we can now confirm the official match result as Limerick 1-6 Tipperary 0-10 resulting in a one point victory for Tipperary."

"We would like to thank all involved for their patience regarding this matter."

Joint captain for Tipperary Cáit Devane was the catalyst for their success, scoring half of the team's tally with three from play and two frees.

Defending league champions and 2019 All-Ireland winners Galway also claimed two points in the Group 2 opening round thanks to a 0-10 to 0-7 win away to Dublin in TU Blanchardstown.

Cork opened their Division 1, Group 1 campaign by hammering Waterford 1-18 to 0-12 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday.

Also in Group 1, Offaly began the season with a 1-3 to 2-7 defeat to Clare ìn Birr.

Kilkenny are the only Division 1 side yet to play. The 2019 losing league finalists begin next Sunday with a trip to Waterford, with the venue yet to be confirmed.

Offaly face the daunting task of hosting Cork.
