Cam Newton believes he can bring a new dynamic to New England

Cam Newton says he'll offer the New England Patriots some new attacking options, rather than being a direct replacement for Tom Brady.

The 31-year-old has been speaking publicly for the first time since the Patriots signed the former Carolina quarter-back to replace six-time Super Bowl winner Brady.

Newton praised Bray as a "great" in a roundtable YouTube discussion with Odell Beckham Jr, Todd Gurley and Victor Cruz while admitting that his predecessor remains "an elephant in the room".

"What he was — what he is — is great. Needs no even talking about it.'

"But one thing about it, though: Coach McDaniels, you're able to call some stuff that you ain't ever been able to call now.

"You're getting a dog. You're getting one of these ticked-off dogs, too. And I'm looking at the schedule and I'm like, 'Who we playing? That team passed on me! OK, that team passed on me. They could've came and got me."

"How are me and Bill Belichick going to mesh?" was the first thought Newton had when informed by his agent that the Patriots were offering him a contract.

"Now I'm going to another situation where I get coached by arguably the best coach. It's like if we were playing spades, it's like, 'Bro, you give me your hand, and you get my hand, and let's see what you'll do with it.'"
