Bohemians to show Africa Cup of Nations Final at Dalymount Park

Senegal and Algeria clash in the African Cup of Nations final this Friday night and Bohemians will be showing the match live at Dalymount Park.

The club has invited football fans from all communities to attend and will also be welcoming residents from the Finglas and Clondalkin Direct Provision centres.

The League of Ireland club has been working this season with MASI (Movement of Asylum Seeker in Ireland) and got behind a supporter-led initiative to assist residents from these two centres to attend every home league game this season.

The initiative was piloted by supporters led by club member Kevin Brannigan last season and proved so popular that it was decided to extend it to all league games this year.

Ten per cent of profits from the 2019 Bohemians away jersey has funded match-night buses from the Finglas and Clondalkin centres.

In a statement, the club says they are striving "to make Dalymount Park an inclusive and welcoming place for all and to highlight the challenges faced by those living in Direct Provision."

Bohemians will not be in action this Friday night so Dalymount's newest regulars will instead attend to watch the AFCON final.

This will be the sixth time that the club has hosted an Africa Cup of Nations final celebration since 2010.

The two nations met in the group stage of the tournament with Algeria coming out on top 1-0 thanks to a Youcef Belaili goal.

The north African nation made it to the decider by beating Nigeria 2-1 in the semi-final thanks to a superb injury-time free kick scored by Manchester City star and the team's captain Riyad Mahrez.

Senegal needed extra-time to beat Tunisia 1-0 but with the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli, Everton's Idriss Gueye and Liverpool star Sadio Mane in the side, they will have a great chance to avenge the group defeat.

The bars at Dalymount Park open at 7.30pm ahead of the game, which kicks off at 8 pm.
