The Kick Off: Quarter-final places are there for the taking in GAA

GAA

There are All-Ireland quarter-final places on the line today at Kingspan Breffni Park and at Semple Stadium.

Either Fermanagh or Westmeath will make it into the last-eight of this year's Championship when they face-off in Cavan this evening in their Round 4A qualifier.

Fermanagh are unchanged from their win over Roscommon last time out, but Westmeath are without team captain Ger Egan and star forward John Heslin through injury.

That game at Kingspan Breffni Park will throw-in at 5pm.

There is a late start to tonight's other 4A qualifier as the Cork footballers must bounce back from the disappointment of their Munster final loss to Kerry last weekend as they face Kildare in Thurles.

Throw-in at Semple Stadium is at 7pm.

An All-Ireland Minor Hurling quarter-final also takes places this afternoon.

The meeting of Antrim and Dublin will provide the opening act at Breffni Park this afternoon, with throw-in at 3pm.

SOCCER

The qualifying draw for the 2018 World Cup takes place this afternoon in St Petersburg.

The Republic of Ireland will be among the fourth seeds in the European section, which means that they are likely to be handed a tough draw that could see them facing the likes of Germany, Italy and Poland.

Later tonight, Longford Town will host Drogheda United in the Airtricity League Premier Division, with kick-off at the City Calling Stadium at 7.30pm.

In the First Division, Cobh Ramblers face Cabinteely FC at St. Colman's Park from 7.45pm.

GOLF

The second round of the Senior Open Championship is being completed this morning after play had to be abandoned at Sunningdale yesterday.

The organisers are now hoping to run-off the second-round this morning before the third round begins in the early afternoon.

Ireland's Peter Lawrie will start the day on 5-under par at the Omega European Masters.

Lawrie is eight shots off the pace in Switzerland, where England's Danny Willett is the out-right leader on 13-under par.

CYCLING

The infamous hairpins of the Alpe d'Huez are now all that stand between Chris Froome and his second Tour de France victory.

The 2013 champion holds a lead of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over his closest rival ahead of the start of the penultimate stage of this year's race.

Ahead of Sunday's procession into Paris, today's 20th Stage represents the last chance for the rest of the field to try and overtake Froome's lead, with the action likely to be played out on the slopes of Alpe d'Huez.

CRICKET

The Ireland cricketers are back in action in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers today.

Having already secured their place in next year's tournament in India, the pressure is off John Bracewell's side ahead of today's semi-final against the Netherlands.

The match in Malahide gets underway at 2.15pm.

RACING

In racing today, there is a seven-race card here at home in Wexford this afternoon.

The Shemalier Median Auction Race at 3pm is the most valuable race on the card, where the first off is at 2.25pm.

But the big race of the day is the Group 1, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot where unbeaten three-year-old, "Golden Horn" will look to add to his wins this season in the Derby and the Coral-Eclipse Stakes.
