The Kick Off: Monaghan footballer given two year drugs ban

The GPA have reminded authorities that they must make sure that players, particularly new panellists, are aware of the Anti-Doping Code.

The statement follows the 2 year suspension to Monaghan panellist Thomas Connolly.

The GAA Anti-Doping Hearings Committee says his violation was not intentional and not subject to the standard four-year suspension.

Tonight in hurling, Waterford go to Cork in the Bord Gais Energy Munster Under 21 semi final. Throw in at Pairc Ui Rinn is at 7.30pm.

BASKETBALL

The Golden State Warriors are NBA Champions.

The California side won their first title since 1975 in the early hours of this morning. They defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-97 in Oakland to win the series 4-2.

Andre Iguodala was named as the Finals MVP.

EUROPEAN GAMES 

There's two more Irish boxers in action today in Baku.

Adam Nolan will compete against Alabanian Welterweight Alban Beqiri in their opening round contest this morning just after 9.

Later this afternoon, Michael O'Reilly is finally set to start his Middleweight campaign against a Croatian opponent.

The only other Irish athlete in action today in Azerbaijan will be Trap Shooter Derek Burnett who is in 12th place overall after the opening day of qualifying yesterday.

RUGBY

The draw for the pool stages of next season's European Champions Cup and European Challenge Cup will take place this afternoon in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the Emerging Ireland will resume their Tbilisi Cup campaign this afternoon in Georgia.

After a bonus-point victory over an Emerging Italy side last time out, Allen Clarke's side will face Uruguay today, with kick-off at 2pm.

HORSE RACING

Day two of this year's Royal Ascot festival will see a rare appearance from the Dermot Weld-trained Free Eagle.

Pat Smullen will partner the 4-year-old in a top-class field for this year's Prince Of Wales's Stakes.

That Group 1 contest is the feature race today and goes to post at 4.20pm.

The action begins with the Jersey Stakes at 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, there's also racing in Wexford this evening where the first of an eight-race card goes to post at half-past five.
