The Kick Off: McGregor wins in Las Vegas

MMA

Conor McGregor is the new Interim UFC Featherweight Champion.

The Dubliner defeated Chad Mendes in Las Vegas in the early hours of this morning.

McGregor won the fight in the last ten seconds of the second round.

Earlier in the night, Neil Seery lost to Louis Smolka by unanimous decision.

Cathal Pendred also suffered his first loss in the UFC. He lost to John Howard on the judges scorecards.

GAELIC GAMES

On another hectic day of action, three provincial titles are up for grabs this afternoon.

The first of those will be decided at Croke Park, where Dublin will look to secure a fifth consecutive Leinster football title.

There'll be live and exclusive national radio commentary of that game on today's Off The Ball, with throw in at 2pm.

In Round 3A of the Football qualifiers, Fermanagh take on Roscommon at Brewster Park where throw-in is at 3.30pm.

And in Round 2B, Armagh take on Galway at the Athletic Grounds from 3pm.

Today's second provincial decider is at Semple Stadium.

As they have done three times in the past six years, Waterford meet Tipperary and that one's underway at 4pm.

Meanwhile, Down face Antrim in the Ulster Senior Hurling final, with throw-in at Owenbeg at 3.30pm.

TENNIS

Novak Djokovic stands in the way of an eighth Wimbledon men's singles title for Roger Federer today.

It's the second year running the pair have met in the decider at S-W-19, with Djokovic looking to become the first man to retain his title since the Swiss in 2007.

They're underway at 2pm on Centre Court.

CYCLING

Today's ninth stage of the Tour de France sees the riders embark on a 28-kilometre team time trial from Vannes to Plumelec.

Team Sky will look to protect, or even increase the lead of yellow jersey holder Chris Froome.

Dan Martin starts the day best of the Irish in 31st following his second place finish in yesterday's stage.

SOCCER

Manchester United have added to their defence.

They last night announced the signing of Italian defender Matteo Darmian from Serie A side Torino.

HORSE RACING

Sligo hosts a seven-race card this afternoon with the first off at 2.25pm.

They're underway two minutes later on the all-weather track at Dundalk where they also host a seven race card.
