The Final Whistle: Harrington has high hopes for Dunne

GOLF

Padraig Harrington believes that Paul Dunne will have a bright future in golf after his performance at this year's Open Championship.

The Greystones amateur has climbed 719 places to 896th in the world after his impressive performances at St Andrews this month.

The 22-year-old is expected to remain in the amateur ranks until after this September's Walker Cup at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

Harrington was speaking on Off The Ball tonight and you can listen to that interview via the podcast:

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of German World Cup winner, Thomas Muller.

United are believed to be preparing a big-money offer for the 25-year-old forward to try and tempt him to follow Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich to Old Trafford.

Reports in the German media suggest that United have made an offer worth €100M.

Meanwhile, Esteban Cambiasso has confirmed that he will not be returning to Leicester.

The former Argentina midfielder's contract expired at the end of last season.

He played a big part in helping the club to avoid Premier League relegation in the last campaign.

Newly-appointed Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri had pleaded with the 34-year-old to sign a new deal.

In other transfer news, Chelsea have allowed striker Patrick Bamford to join Crystal Palace on a season-long loan.

The highly-rated 21-year-old, who qualifies to play for Ireland under the grandparent rule but appears committed to playing for England, was the Championship's player of the year last season after scoring 19 goals while on-loan with Middlesbrough.

Ireland's cricketers will play The Netherlands in the semi-finals of this month's ICC World T20 Qualifier tournament.

The Dutch defeated Namibia today to secure their place in Saturday's semi-final in Malahide, which will begin at 2.15pm.

Saturday's other semi-final will be contested by Hong Kong and Scotland.
