The Final Whistle: Cech and Mignolet star while there's a giant-killing in the Cup

SOCCER

Despite numerous chances for both sides, tonight's Premier League game at the Emirates has finished goalless.

Goalkeepers Petr Cech and Simon Mignolet each pulled off a string of saves that saw it end Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool.

Liverpool remain unbeaten, and are yet to concede a goal this season.

Non-league Sheriff YC are through to the quarter finals of the FAI Cup.

The Dublin side beat last season's Premier Division competitors Athlone Town 4-3 on penalties after a goalless 120-minutes in their replay at Lissywollen.

Sheriff will return to the Midlands for a last-eight meeting with Longford.

GOLF

Paul Dunne is one of a record five Irish players named on the Great Britain and Ireland team for this year's Walker Cup.

Captain Nigel Edwards has also called upon Gavin Moynihan to make a second appearance, alongside first-timers Cormac Sharvin, Gary Hurley and Jack Hume.

It's the first time in the 93-year history of the event that Ireland have been represented in such numbers.

Great Britain and Ireland seek a first Walker Cup win since 2011 when they face the USA at Royal Lytham & St Annes on the 12th and 13th of next month.

RUGBY

Marco Bortolami is the most notable absentee from Italy's 31-man World Cup squad.

The 112-cap second row was a second half replacement in Saturday's defeat to Scotland in Turin, but had scant involvement in the Six Nations this year.

36-year old Mauro Bergamasco is included for what will be his fifth World Cup.

The Azzurri are Ireland's penultimate Pool D opponents at London's Olympic Stadium on October 4th

CYCLING

Nicolas Roche and Dan Martin remain third and fourth respectively on general classification following today's third stage of the Vuelta Espana.

Peter Sagan claimed the stage in a sprint into Malaga, with the Irish pair close behind.

Colombian Johan Esteban Chaves Rubio retains the leader's red jersey.
