There was plenty of action yesterday in the Olympics as the golf got started and Team Ireland were in action in the ring in search of a glimmer of hope following a tough few days for the sport.
Stephen Donnelly offered some hope for the Irish boxers when he made his way through to the quarter-final of the men's welterweight with a split decision victory over Mongolia's Byamba Tuvshinbat. The Antrim man is just one win away from a medal and keeps the Ireland flag flying amidst some difficult times for our boxers in recent weeks.
Speaking of his next opponent, world champion Mohamed Rabii of Morocco, Donnelly said, "He's a classy operator and he's not the world champion for nothing but as I said in my last interview, I believe in myself and I'm going to give it everything.
"I'm going to go in and give it my all, I've got nothing to lose and everything to gain."
Golf
The Irish golfers got underway yesterday with Padraig Harrington carding a one under par 70 and Seamus Power finishing on even par with a 71 as they became Ireland's first Olympians in the sport of golf.
Harrington trails leader Marcus Fraser by seven shots but a good round today will see compete strongly for a medal as he has potentially three more rounds to get to grips with the course and pin back the Australian, Fraser.
Rowing
The O'Donovan Brothers revealed their strategy to the world yesterday when they told reporters, "A to B as fast as you can go, close the eyes and pull like a dog".
With the finals of the IAC Rowing today when the O'Donovan brothers battle for a medal in the lightweight men's skulls in the afternoon, everyone in Ireland will be cheering on their new favourite Irish athletes.
Hockey
Ireland defeated Canada 4-2 in a crucial Group B game and the way other results went for them means a victory against Argentina today will result in qualification for the quarter-finals.
That game takes place at 11pm on Friday night.
Swimming
Michael Phelps outdid himself yet again with as he cruised to his 22nd gold medal at the Olympics. The 31-year-old crushed the competition in the 200m individual medley yesterday.

Gymnastics
Simone Biles continues to dominate in women's gymnastics and wiped the floor with the competition last night as she won another gold in the all-around gymnastics event as she keeps her hopes alive of winning five gold medals in Rio.
