Rio police have issued international arrest warrants for four men believed to be involved in the Rio 2016 ticket touting scandal.
Police have already arrested one man, Irishman Kevin Mallon, after being caught with tickets and now seek to detain a second Irishman David Patrick Gilmore (35).
British man and Ipswich Town FC owner Marcus Evans (52) is also wanted be police, as is Dutchman Maarten Van Os (45) and British man Martin Studd, 49.
"This is a scheme THG has been operating for nearly 10 years, to sell tickets illegally at astronomically high prices under the cover of a hospitality scheme," says Ronaldo Oliveira de Souza, Rio’s civil police’s director of specialised units.
"They have done this all over the world, but we are the only country to have detected this fraud," he added. He continued by saying he did not believe the four other men were in Brazil.
Chief of Rio’s large events police unit, Ricardo Barbosa, said seven witnesses have given statements alleging they purchased Olympics hospitality packages including tickets from THG.
These people said they had no dealings with Pro 10, who are the Authorised Ticket Resellers and not THG. THG have not been ATRs since the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.
Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, Brazilian based journalist Matt Sandy gave some insight into the specially staged press conference.
