Morning Bulletin: Early headlines from the sports desk

GOLF

Shane Lowry is best of the Irish heading into day two of the WGC Cadillac Championship in Florida.

The Offalyman is 1-under after a 71, while both Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell are 1-over.

JB Holmes leads by 4 on 10 under after a 62.

Waterford's Kevin Phelan will tee-off from 5-under par later this morning on day two of the Africa Open in South Africa.

Phelan carded a 67 yesterday to hold a share of the overnight lead with England's Matt Ford, who's currently the on-course leader on 9-under after 8.

Darren Clarke and Damien McGrane will also tee-off later this morning from level par.

GAELIC FOOTBALL

Paul Galvin isn't in the Kerry set-up for this weekend's Allainz league match against Cork.

Manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice has made a straight swap in his attack with Barry John Keane named at corner forward in place of Paul Geaney, who has a hip injury.

Cork manager Brian Cuthbert has reshuffled his line-up.

Mark Collins moves from midfield to replace Donnacha O'Connor full-forward.

Eoin Cadogan moves into midfield to partner Fintan Goold, with Stephen O'Donoghue coming into the side at centre-back with Tomás Clancy and Jamie O'Sullivan flanking him on the half-back line.

Ahead of their clash with Derry, Mayo make five changes from the side that defeated Monaghan last Sunday.

Goalkeeper Kenneth O'Malley replaces Robbie Hennelly.

Ger Cafferkey and Colm Boyle start instead of the Under-21 duo of Stephen Coen and Patrick Durcan in defence.

In midfield, Danny Kirby takes the place of the injured Donal Vaughan, who has a slight ankle injury.

Kildare have secured their place in the semi-finals of the Eirgrid Leinster Under-21 Football Championship.

The Lilywhites' beat Offaly at O'Moore Park by 3-12 to 0-9.

HURLING

Cork make just one change to their starting team ahead of this tomorrow's clash with Dublin in Croke Park.

Shane O'Neill replaces the injured Damien Cahalane at corner-back.

The Wexford hurlers have recalled Andrew Shore, Tomás Waters and Conor MacDonald to their panel ahead of this Sunday's meeting with Limerick.

Shore makes a welcome return to the side at wing-back after having his 48-week ban over-turned at last weekend's Annual Congress.

MacDonald is named at full-forward, while Waters will start the game on the bench.

TENNIS

In Davis Cup tennis, Ireland's weekend meeting with Belarus begins this afternoon at 4pm at Castleknock LTC in Dublin.

The Irish are based in the Euro-Africa zone.

Captain and former US Open and Wimbledon played Conor Niland says they know a lot about their opponents.

ATHLETICS

European bronze medallist Mark English will be in action this morning (11.40) at the European indoor championships in Prague.

The Donegal man runs in the 800 metres.

Gerard O'Donnell, Dara Kervick, Ciara Everard and Declan Murray are also involved in the morning session.

SOCCER

The Irish Women's team are back in action this morning at the Istria Cup in Croatia.

After starting their Group A campaign with a 1-1 draw against Hungary, Sue Ronan's side will now take on Slovakia (10.30).

Later tonight is the start of the new Airtricity League season.

The big game on the opening night of the Premier Division is at the Tallaght Stadium where Shamrock Rovers will host St Patrick's Athletic.

Elsewhere, Dundalk begin the defence of their title against Longford Town at Oriel Park, while Galway United play host to Derry City.

All of those games kick-off at 7:45.

In the First Division, newcomers Cabinteely United will make their league debut at home to the Wexford Youths at Stradbrook.

Also at 7:45, Waterford United go up against Athlone Town at the RSC, while there's an 8pm start between Shelbourne and Finn Harps at Tolka Park.

RUGBY

In Guinness PRO12 , Connacht face Cardiff Blues in Wales tonight (7.35).

RACING

There's an eight-race card this evening at Dundalk, where the opener is at 5.35.
