Meath's Mouth Rushmore | Who will you pick from our long list?

It is Meath's turn to get the Mount Rushmore treatment and our very own Tommy Rooney has the task of picking the fruits of the Royal County - so who will be High King*?

It is a very tricky task, with Meath's men and women blazing a trail in everything from football to international racing; from soccer to athletics.

Below are the runners and riders; let us know which would be your four to grace not only the Hill of Tara but Mount Rushmore!

* We have banned him from choosing four Meath Hill players...

Meath Football

Will any of the 'Four Kings', the stars of Philip Lanigan's book, make it onto the mount? Darren Fay, Jack Quinn, Mick Lyons and Paddy O’Brien all have a good shout at being included.

Football is a crowded field, in both senses, with the likes of  Tommy Dowd, Trevor Giles, Graham Geraghty and John McDermott vying for position.

Or will the members of the Meath teams that became prominent in the late '80s and '90s get the nod? The likes of Robbie O’Malley, Gerry McEntee, Brian Stafford Colm O’Rourke and Martin O’Connell are right in the mix.

Horse Racing

With the county that houses Fairyhouse Racecourse in Ratoath, it is only right that that the Royal County might have an entrant from the Sport of Kings.

Paul Carberry has ridden 14 (yes, 14) Cheltenham Festival winners and another 43 Grade 1 winners in a glittering career as a jockey. Meanwhile, Nina Carberry has been blazing a trail in her own right, becoming the first woman to win at Cheltenham for 18 years when she romped home in 2005.

Pelletstown native Barry Geraghty remains one of the most recognisable names in horse racing, having recently emerged from a successful Cheltenham.

Or will the sculptors of this particular Mount Rushmore have their work cut out, with Tiger Roll and Arkle both deserving a mention?

Why the long face...

Managers

Meath has its fair share of heritage in management too, with Tommy's first and only confirmed selection being the legendary Sean Boylan. If he isn't kicking Kieran Donaghy off his daughters swing, then he's eating toast and plotting All Ireland wins and International Rules tours.

Meanwhile, the world of racing wouldn't be the same without Gordon Elliott – his tussle with Willie Mullins being the dynamic that has propelled the sport forwards.

Rugby

The oval ball is no stranger to Meath men either - will Shane Horgan's epic try at Croke Park be enough to get him a spot? Or will the gargantuan, in every sense, Devin Toner do the business?

Olympians and Athletics

We also have to look at those that have represented Ireland on the international stage at the very highest levels: Olympic medallists Darren Sutherland and Cian O'Connor have done what few others have managed, while pentathlete Natalya Coyle has an extremely bright future.
