Padraig Harrington might be suffering a prolonged battle to recapture his best form but the Dubliner comfortably remains Ireland’s richest sports person. With an estimated worth of €43m – up €2m on last year – Harrington is still well ahead of Rory McIlroy, who is Ireland’s second richest on €34m.
Robbie Keane and Damien Duff tie for third on €22m, while Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell are fifth and sixth respectively, on €20m and €18m.
Lewis Hamilton is Britain’s richest sportsperson, the F1 star has a fortune estimated at €82m. Hamilton edges out fellow F1 star Jensen Button who is on €76m and €10m ahead of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney on €72m.
Andy Murray ‘s Wimbledon win saw his earnings for the year at roughly €9m, lifting his total worth to €48m.
The figures come from the Sunday Times Rich List, which is published in full next month.
The paper says there calculations are based on “identifiable wealth, including land, property, other assets such as art and racehorses, or significant shares in publicly quoted companies” and “excludes bank accounts, to which the paper has no access”.
