Nearly 20 people expected to shelter in occupied NAMA property overnight despite order to leave

The group occupying a NAMA owned building in Dublin city centre has said converting more vacant buildings into suitable accommodation for homeless people would save lives.

Activists and homeless outreach workers have occupied Apollo House in Dublin and are using it to provide shelter to homeless people.

The group has renamed the former Department of Social Protection building on Tara Street, "Home Sweet Home."

Appearing on The Late Late Show last night, Oscar winning songwriter, Glen Hansard said the occupation was “an act of civil disobedience.”

New poll shows falling support for Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has seen his satisfaction rating drop by six points in the last month according to a new opinion poll.

The Behaviour and Attitudes poll in tomorrow's Sunday Times indicates the Sinn Fein TD's rating has dropped six points down to 32.

The poll was taken during extensive coverage of the 1983 IRA shooting of Brian Stack, on which Gerry Adams made a Dáil statement.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny is on 33 points - a rise of one point since last month's survey.

Fianna Fail's Micheál Martin is the country's most popular political leader on 50 points, with Labour's Brendan Howlin on 39.

Donald Trump slams Chinese seizure of US drone as 'unprecedented act'

President-elect Donald Trump has hit out at the Chinese seizure of a US underwater drone in international waters as an "unprecedented act".

The drone was collecting scientific date in the disputed South China Sea, and was one of two being recovered by a US survey ship, when it was taken by a Chinese warship, according to the Pentagon.

Trump initially referred to the act as 'unpresidented'. However, the tweet has since been deleted, with Trump amending the spelling of the word.

Jack Carty's final minute conversion completes remarkable comeback for Connacht

Connacht pulled off a remarkable comeback in Galway on Saturday evening, scoring in the last minute to beat Wasps 20-18 at the Sportsgrounds.

Pat Lam's side shot out of the blocks early on and were rewarded for their industry with a penalty, only for Carty to pull his attempt wide.

The home side attacked with intent but Wasps deployed a choke defence and were able to snuff out any real danger before the Westerners could build up any momentum.

Carty slotted over a penalty resulting from a ruck after good work Marmion to give the home side a 3-0 lead.
