Brazilian police seize passports, phones and laptops of OCI personnel

Police in Rio have seized the passports of three personnel working for the the Olympic Council of Ireland.

A statement just issued by the OCI, said Brazilian police arrived early this morning to the OCI offices in the Olympic village and at OCI accommodation outside of the village.

No arrests were made but police took possession of their passports along with their phones and laptops.

The OCI personnel were asked to present for questioning at a local police station on Tuesday August 23rd, and they agreed to do so.

The statement also said the OCI had an allocation of unused official tickets in their offices which had been made available for athletes’ families and friends, and the police  took possession of these.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it's aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance.

The OCI board are meeting today to discuss the fallout from the Rio ticketing scandal, and a statement will be issued once the meeting is over.
