Antonio Conte leaves Inter after leading them to Serie A title

Antonio Conte has left Inter, days after leading them to a first Serie A title in eleven years.

The 51-year old spent Wednesday afternoon negotiating with the Inter hierarchy to have his contract terminated by mutual agreement. He was in the final year of a three-year contract.

Conte led the Nerazzurri to within a point of champions Juventus during his first season in charge, going one better in the second.

The former Chelsea boss earns €12million a year at the San Siro, and according to Tuttomercatoweb is seeking €9million to walk away. Inter are reportedly only offering €6.5million.

Despite this season's successes on the pitch, Inter's financial situation is grim.

Suning Holdings - the club's majority stakeholders - were reportedly seeking $200million (€163m) in emergency funding to counter-balance the effects of the pandemic.

The club suffered a pre-tax loss of €102m in 2019-20, mainly brought about by falls in revenue associated with COVID-19.

Inter statement:

FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Antonio Conte for the termination of his contract by mutual consent.

The Club would like to thank Antonio for the extraordinary work that he has done, culminating in Inter’s 19th top-flight title.

Antonio Conte will forever remain a part of our Club’s history.
