Tampa Bay Buccaneers terminate Antonio Brown contract

NFL player Antonio Brown has had his contract terminated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This follows a bizarre incident over the weekend that saw the wide receiver storm off the pitch towards the locker room in the third quarter of their 28-24 win over the New York Jets.

He said afterward that he is suffering from an ankle injury which the Buccaneers are attempting to "cover-up."

He also recently used a fake Covid-19 vaccine certificate and was suspended.

Head coach Bruce Arians announced on Monday that Brown was "no longer a Buc" and he has kept his word, releasing him on Thursday.

Brown is one of the best wide receivers to play in the NFL over the last 10 years.

He initially established himself with the Pittsburgh Steelers before a spat with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger saw him depart.

He then moved to the Las Vegas Raiders, but fought with Jon Gruden and never played a game for them.

Legendary quarter-back for the Bucs Tom Brady recruited Brown and was so eager to have him he allowed him to stay in his house.

This will now come as a pretty big blow to Brady's offence.

A statement on Thursday from the Buccaneers in relation to Brown said;

"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have terminated the contract of Antonio Brown, effective immediately.

"While Antonio did receive treatment on his ankle and was listed on the injury report the week leading up to last Sunday's game, he was cleared to play by our medical team prior to the start of the game and at no point during the game did he indicate to our medical personnel that he could not play.

"We have attempted, multiple times throughout this week, to schedule an evaluation by an outside orthopedic specialist, yet Antonio has not complied.

"Maintaining the health and wellness of our players is of the utmost importance to our organization."
