Andy Dunne says Joe Schmidt's Ireland are "very one-dimensional"

Former Leinster player Andy Dunne says Joe Schmidt's strategical approach is very one-dimensional.

Ireland's defence of their Grand-Slam title ended at the first hurdle last weekend going down to a comprehensive 20-32 defeat to their English counterparts in Aviva Stadium.

Andy Dunne joined OTB's Thursday Night Rugby to preview Ireland's Six Nations clash against Scotland in Murrayfield this Saturday.

Schmidt announced his starting XV earlier this afternoon in Carton House, and made five changes to the team that lost to Eddie Jones' side.

The Former Connacht player says Schmidt's Ireland side are more reserved than the Leinster side the New Zealander coached from 2010-13.

Dunne believes the two-time European Cup winner's Leinster side played a free-flowing attacking style of rugby.

He says Schmidt's Ireland have lacked that dynamic in order to put points on their opposition.

"The Leinster team he coached were very expressive, very attack minded, very fluent in attack; his Irish teams certainly lack that level of fluency,' explained Dunne.

The Belvedere man says he understands international rugby is very different from the club game but thinks Schmidt's Ireland side need more variations in the opposing 22'.

"I don't think he's adverse to being attacking or attack-minded. I just think his current strategy to success; to scoring points and tries is very one-dimensional."
