Navy Midshipmen vs Kansas State Wildcats | AutoZone Liberty Bowl preview

It will be Navy vs Kansas in this year's Liberty Bowl decider in Memphis, Tennessee on New Year's Eve.

Bringing together the winners of the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy Navy and a Kansas State side looking to secure its first nine-win season in three years, the former of this pairing have been doing all they can to project the image of success ahead of Tuesday's decider.

With the New England Patriots playing host to the Miami Dolphins on Week 17 of the NFL regular season, the six-time Super Bowl champions allowed the Navy Midshipmen to borrow the organisation's private jet for the journey down to Tennessee.

That being said, with the Patriots looking a little shy of their usual form, Navy will be keen to focus on what has already been an impressive season for the military outfit.

Chasing what would be only the second 11-win season in the school's history, the significance of Tuesday's game with Kansas State has not been lost on the players.

"Knowing that only one other Navy team has done that, it would be a terrific thing to finish 11-2," Navy defensive tackle Jackson Pittman explained to the Kansas-based Wichita Eagle. "But we know Kansas State is going to come in and give us their best. We need to make sure we focus on ourselves and do everything we can to stop them as a defence."

Indeed, for Kansas State, the stakes are a little different.

Four years after the college's last appearance in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, there will be some sense of disappointment among K-State fans that the 8-4 season has panned out as it has, however.

"I want it real bad," senior receiver Dalton Schoen declared. "I think all the seniors really do, just for us to have one more win for each other and our new coaches would be the perfect way to end my career here."

Chasing what would be a significant win nevertheless, Kansas are looking to secure their most successful year since winning the Big 12 championship in 2012.
