Ian Book staying at Notre Dame is good for Ireland and The Fighting Irish

Ian Book has confirmed that he will continue as Notre Dame quarterback for his senior season in 2020, in a move that has delighted Fighting Irish fans.

The 21-year-old Californian holds Notre Dame's school record for second-most passing touchdowns in a single game and the second-most total touchdowns in a single game.

Book also ranks in the top five for the most career total touchdowns, most career passing touchdowns and most career total yards in Notre Dame football history.

There were rumours that Book might have tested the NFL draft waters, but his decision to stay on means that he is in a position rarely seen in the college's history.

If Book continues or improves on his statistics this year, he has the chance to leave Brady Quinn in the shade for career passing touchdowns, career total touchdowns, passing touchdowns, total touchdowns in a single season and most career yards in school history.

Book became the first quarterback in Notre Dame history to total more than 3,000 passing yards and 500 rushing yards in the same season.

He may be able to break many career quarterback records, including the program record for career wins (29), shared by Tom Clements, Ron Powlus and Brady Quinn.

Having Book back presents some stability as the offense makes its change after the exit of their previous offensive coordinator, Chip Long.
