Alan Quinlan lays out dream Munster managerial team

Looking four-years into the future at the tail-end of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Alan Quinlan described what his ideal Munster backroom team would look like.

Although a good deal of excitement surrounds Johann van Graan's recruitment of Australia's Stephen Larkham and England's Graham Rowntree to his backroom team, Alan Quinlan is not alone in wishing there was a greater representation of local talent in the Munster set-up.

"You'd love to see all Munster guys there, but it's not always going to happen, it's not always going to fall in place that way.

Drafted in to replace the outgoing Jerry Flannery and Felix Jones, both Paul O'Connell and Ronan O'Gara shared their surprise with this overhaul during conversations with Off the Ball.

Speaking on Monday's OTB AM, however, Alan Quinlan set about lining out what his ideal Munster backroom team might look like in the coming years.

"Having played with Ronan and Paul," he began, "it would be nice to see the two of them work together.

"Mike Prendergast is someone I'd love to see come back and be involved."

Having spent most of his playing career with Munster, Prendergast has been working in France in a coaching capacity since 2013.

Most recently, he departed Stade Francais to take up the role of backs coach with Racing 92. A former teammate of Quinlan's, he believes Prendergast would be a huge asset to Irish rugby.

Although it appears likely that O'Gara will one day make a return to Irish rugby and has dedicated himself to the profession indefinitely, Alan Quinlan admitted that much will depend on timing.
