Ex-Senior Medical officer of the Turf club Dr Adrian McGoldrick said that the affects after recovering from COVID-19 can still be life threatening and should in no way be ignored.
Speaking on Friday Night Racing on Off The Ball, Dr McGoldrick spoke about his own experience and complications after recovering from COVID-19, saying he was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and inflammation of the heart.
“I got COVID from three patients in a nursing home. I had very mild symptoms like fatigue, but I just put that down to work. So, I did isolate for 14 days and was working remotely when I had the virus.
“When I returned to work six weeks ago, on the fourth day I couldn’t get out of bed with fatigue. I spent three days in bed. When I went back to work the following week and I hadn’t even the energy to pick up a phone.”
After further testing it showed that Dr McGoldrick post virus was diagnosed with Myocarditis, which is a dangerous case which results in inflammation of the heart.
McGoldrick stressed that he has never experienced anything like COVID-19 in all his years in the field saying it can destroy every part of your body and still people are not taking it as serious.
“I feel younger people lately are of the notion that only older people can get the disease. This disease should be avoided at all costs because nobody is safe from it. I’m 40 years in General Practice and I’ve never seen anything like COVID.
“I feel a lot of people after getting COVID will have problems like me, chronic fatigue, heart problems and perhaps psychological problems.
“COVID-19 is not limited. It can affect your brain, your lungs, your heart and your skin. COVID is a very unique virus that has no limits.”

McGoldrick said if people are experiencing any symptoms after recovering from COVID-19 then they should rest and isolate.
He also said that the public should not put off going for regular check-ups as COVID can affect many parts of the body.
“When I had Myocarditis, I couldn’t even get out of the bed. I was curled up so tired. I would not wish it on anybody. The only treatment is resting the heart and if you don’t do that and you start stressing, you could cause your heart to stop.
“I noticed people are putting off going for check-ups for other problems because of COVID. You should keep going to these appointments. General Practices are usually very safe places with strict hygiene.
“For people out there not wearing masks or younger people going to parties, I would suggest that they look in the mirror and think about other people before thinking about yourself.”
