Yair Rodriguez taking the positives from defeat

Top UFC featherweight prospect Yair Rodriguez is looking to learn the lessons from his defeat to MMA legend Frankie Edgar.

The much-vaunted Mexican lost out to the veteran due to a doctor's stoppage after the second round of their featherweight bout at UFC 211 earlier this month.

Speaking on the MMAHour, he revealed his disappointment at the result but is grateful for the opportunity as it showed him how far he has to progress in the sport.

"It was great for me because now I see the level,” he said, adding: “I know what you guys are talking about when you see the level of high wrestling, so I feel it now, and now it’s time to work on all that I have to work on.

"You can ask anyone you want, I’m better than that, simple as that. I work harder than that. Like, whenever I tell you guys I work every single day and I don’t do other things, this is true."

Looking to take the positives from the situation he said: "I guess this is a learning experience, and I’m not going to put in any excuses. He was better than me that night and that’s it, so just keep moving on."

Rodriguez was on a roll in the UFC, having won six straight fights until his charge up the rankings was derailed by the New Jersey native.
