Wayne Rooney is understood to be considering a move back to Everton at the end of the season.
Earlier this week, Ronald Koeman told Sky Sports that he would open to negotiating a deal with Rooney, who has been ushered to the peripheries of Jose Mourinho's side, following the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Swede's current scoring form would suggest that there's no longer a place in the starting 11 for Rooney.
Ibrahimovic netted his 26th goal across all competitions last weekend, with two goals against Southampton to secure the EFL Cup for United.
Rooney reached a milestone in his Man United career earlier this season, hitting his 250th goal to become the club's all-time leading goal-scorer. The significance of the goal aside, that was just Rooney's fifth goal across all competitions so far this season.
His current contract is due to end in 2019, but he may consider leaving before the end of his deal.
Last month, former teammate Paul Scholes indicated that Rooney might have no option but to consider leaving the club, saying that 'being a sub will be driving him up the wall.'
Sky Sports understands that Rooney is considering a move back to Everton, who he left in 2004 for United. In addition to Koeman's interest, it's reported that the Merseyside club also made an approach during the January transfer window, but United insisted that Rooney was still an important player at the club.
The 31-year-old has also been linked with prospective moves to the MLS and the Chinese Super League.
