WATCH: Russell Westbrook breaks the NBA's triple-double record

Russell Westbrook wrote his name into the record books with his 42nd triple-double of the season, on Sunday night.

The Oklahoma City Thunder star scored 50 points, including a three-pointer with the last play of the game to break Oscar Robertson's record. Robertson made 41 triple-doubles in the 1961-62 season, in a record, most fans believed could never be broken.

Westbrook scored 50 points, made 10 assists and caught 16 rebounds in the record-breaking performance. The Thunder defeated Denver Nuggets 106-105 to eliminate their opponents from playoff contention.

On the historic night, Westbrook broke the record in the fourth quarter, but still had time to score the winning basket. The Thunder now look set to secure the sixth seed in the Western Conference

Westbrook said breaking the record was "amazing" after the win. "It's something I could never dream about as a kid."
