Tottenham victory essential to stay within range of Chelsea

Tottenham can cut Chelsea's lead at the top of the Premier League back down to four points with a win at Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

The leaders knocked Spurs out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage on Saturday. Last season, Mauricio Pochettino's side fell apart after a draw at Chelsea ended their pursuit of the title.

He says there are no parallels a year later.

"When we got the draw, they won the Premier League," he said ahead the game against their London rivals.

"This is different. Now we've lost the semi-final, but we still have six games ahead of us and we are fighting."

Chelsea restored their seven-point lead at the summit of the Premier League with a 4-2 victory over Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino now prepares to take on Sam Allardyce's side, who have won three of their last five games and are now up to 12th in the league.

Victories against Arsenal and more recently Liverpool looks to have almost secured their top-flight status with five games to play.

"In the last few months, Crystal Palace have been playing so well. They won against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Arsenal at home and the last day against Liverpool.

"People have spoken very highly about the team, so it's going to be incredibly tough. But, when you are competing at this level there is no time to regret or complain.

"You have to be ready in the present."

Chelsea remain favourites for the title and speaking after last night's game defender and goalscorer Gary Cahill said they wouldn't be getting carried away.

"The win leaves us in a good position," he said. "We've just got to concentrate on what we have to do this weekend. It's going to be a difficult game [away to Everton], so the focus now is to recover."
