Sunderland's Duncan Watmore saves holidaymakers after boat crash

Sunderland's Duncan Watmore has saved three British holidaymakers after a boat crash.

The winger who is out for the season after injuring his knee was in Barbados when the incident took place.

A catamaran crashed into a speedboat Watmore and his girlfriend were onboard, breaking it in half.

The collision caused both Watmore and his girlfriend to fall overboard along with three elderly passengers from the other vessel.

He helped the three passengers out of the water before coastguards arrived on the scene.

One of that trio told The Sun about the 23 year old's actions: “It was scary, life or death. I’m lucky not to be coming back in a box.

“Duncan helped everybody to get on to the boat — he couldn’t have been nicer.”

The paper also added that he also used a T-shirt to stem the bleeding of one passenger who had suffered a severe cut in the incident.

Watmore will not be involved as Sunderland attempt to avoid relegation from the Premier League, having suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in December.
