Sunday night takeaway: Spurs cut Chelsea's lead to seven points

Harry Kane led the charge with a brace as Tottenham recorded a 3-2 over Everton at White Hart Lane to cut the gap to Chelsea to seven points.

Spurs' win was much more comforatable than the scoreline suggests as the north London side recorded their ninth consecutive home win.

Kane opened the scoring in the 20th minute when he scored from range. The home side dominated the remainder of the half but were unaqble to double their lead.

The second half continued in the same vein and Kane capitalised on a mix-up in the Everton defence to bag his second of the match in the 56th minute.

Spurs were in cruise control until Romalu Lukaku pulled one back for the visitors against the run of play in the 81st minute.

Dele Alli looked to have sealed all three points after a clever cross from Harry Winks caught the Everton defence napping in injury time.

The drama didn't end there though as Enner Valencia scored a minute later but Spurs held out for a deserved 3-2 win.

Elsewhere, Man City weathered an early Sunderland storm to prevail 2-0 at the Stadium of Light.

David Moyes' side gave as good as they got for most of the opening period with Jermain Defoe a constant threat.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring after turning in a deflected cross in the 42nd minute.

Leroy Sane doubled the lead in the 59th minute and Sunderland were unable to respond.

The win moves City back into third although they have a game in hand on second-place Tottenham. Sunderland remain rooted to the foot of the table.
