Shane Lowry slips back at Wentworth

Shane Lowry has slipped back to 2-under overall after his second round at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Offaly golfer had started the day on 4-under after carding a 68 on Day 1 which had left him just two off the lead at the close of his round.

But the Irishman carded a 2-over 74 on Friday to fall back to a tie for 19th with some of the competitors still to complete their rounds.

Lowry managed three birdies on the day but unfortunately for him, bogeys on the 5th, 6th, 9th, 13th and 14th set him back.

There is a three way tie for the lead on 7-under.

Italy's Francesco Molinari followed up Thursday's 67 with a 70, while fellow co-leaders Scotland's Scott Jamieson and Belgium's Thomas Pieters carded a 70 and 69 respectively in their second rounds.

Germany's Maximilian Kiefer is one off the lead on 6-under after carding a 68.

He is in turn one shot clear of a four way tie for fifth which includes Sweden's Henrik Stenson and England's Lee Westwood.

There are other Irish challengers in action at Wentworth, with Paul Dunne on 2-over overall after a 75, just outside the projected cut mark.

Damien McGrane and Padraig Harrington both find themselves on 3-over, with the latter still out on course having managed two birdies and four bogeys through 16 holes.

Darren Clarke is further back on 7-over and is also through 16, although he managed a high point of an eagle on the Par 5 12th hole.
