Shane Lowry certainly enjoyed himself this weekend at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Home to the most raucous hole in all of golf, the 16th at TPC Scottsdale, Lowry was snapped dishing out cans of Guinness to members of the crowd and yesterday finished his tournament with a round of 71.
The Offaly native dropped one shot at the end of his opening nine holes, but clawed it back on 10 with a birdie. He would again hit a bogey-birdie combination on 12 and 13.
He picked up a shot on 15 before giving it back on 16 and closing out his round with consecutive pars.
Level par for his final round, Lowry finished with a share of 16th alongside Phil Mickelson, Kevin Na and Brendan Steele among others.
The result comes on the back of his performance at the Farmers Insurance Open at the end of January, where he finished T33.
Hideki Matsuyama finished top of the pile in Arizona after a play-off with Webb Simpson.
"It was a struggle, especially that playoff, but I'm really happy to win," he said after his round. "I just had faith and believed that there was going to be a chance to win it. Luckily, I made it.
"During the playoff, I did hit some good putts. Just the line wasn't there, and so, you know, up and down. But I didn't lose confidence. I just kept grinding and had patience."
This was Matsuyama's second consecutive victory at the Phoenix Open, which prompted questions as to whether he enjoys his golf in Arizona: "Yeah, if I can keep playing like this here, I will definitely."
